Every way to trigger an emergency, and exactly what happens next
SafX can raise an alarm from the SOS button, from shaking the phone, from a detected car crash, or from a paired watch. All four run through the same countdown and the same delivery path.
- The four ways to raise an emergency — Button, shake, crash detection, or a paired smartwatch.
- The countdown, and how to cancel — Nothing is sent immediately. You get between 5 and 30 seconds to stop an accidental trigger.
- What happens the moment the countdown ends — Guardians are notified, live location starts flowing, evidence capture begins, and a report is opened.
- Tuning shake detection so it fires when you mean it — Three sliders decide sensitivity: shake count, intensity and window.
- Testing your trigger without sending anything — A 2-minute test mode that disables real shake emergencies while it runs.
- Crash detection — Automatic while driving, using accelerometer data together with GPS speed.
- Evidence capture during an emergency — Audio can start automatically; camera and microphone can be pre-armed so they open without delay.
- Cancelling versus resolving — Cancel stops an alert before it is sent. Resolve closes one that has already gone out.
- Monthly alert limits on the free plan — The free plan allows 3 emergency alerts per calendar month.
- Common problems and fixes — When the trigger does not behave the way you expect.
Frequently asked questions
How does shake to SOS work in SafX?
Shake the phone hard enough and often enough within a set time window. By default that is 4 shakes at intensity 20 within 4 seconds. A countdown then starts before the alert is sent, so an accidental shake can be cancelled. It works with the screen locked on Android and iPhone, but not in a web browser.
Who gets notified when I trigger a SafX emergency?
Every connected guardian on your account receives a push notification, plus an email if they have email alerts enabled. Registered security agencies also receive it if agency sharing is left switched on in Settings -> Account -> Privacy & sharing. SafX does not contact the police on your behalf.
Does SafX record audio during an emergency?
Only if you turn on "Record audio on emergency" under Settings -> Safety -> Evidence. When enabled, it captures a clip of between 5 and 20 seconds, 10 by default, and attaches it to the incident report.
How many emergency alerts can I send on the free SafX plan?
Three per calendar month. Cancelled alerts do not count. Pro has no monthly limit.
