Using the Live Map to see where your people are right now
The Live Map shows the current position of the people who share with you, with speed, motion state and how fresh each position is. It is a Pro feature.
- What the Live Map shows — Positions, freshness, speed and motion for everyone sharing with you.
- Reading position freshness correctly — A marker on the map is a last known position, not a guarantee of where someone is now.
- How often a position updates — The interval adapts to how fast the person is moving, to protect battery.
- What happens when a phone goes offline — Positions are queued on the device and uploaded when connectivity returns.
- Who appears on your map, and who does not — Only people who share with you, and only while they are sharing.
- Common problems and fixes — Blank maps and stuck markers.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my contact’s position on the SafX map out of date?
Their phone is offline, has background tracking disabled, or is restricted by battery optimisation. SafX deliberately does not replay a stale position as if it were live: if the last fix is older than about 90 seconds it sends a presence ping with no coordinates instead. Always read the timestamp beside the marker.
Is the SafX Live Map free?
No. Live Map is a Pro feature, along with Location History, Activity Timeline, Reports and Family Monitor. Core safety features such as SOS, shake detection and trusted contacts are free.
