What SafX can do on Android, on iPhone, and in a web browser
The three platforms are not equivalent, and the differences matter in an emergency. Android can do the most in the background, iPhone is restricted by Apple in two specific ways, and the web version cannot track you at all.
- The web version cannot track you — safx.net/app is a viewer. It does not report your location and cannot raise an alarm in the background.
- What Android can do — Android permits the most background behaviour, including sending an emergency SMS without you touching the phone.
- What iPhone can do, and the two things Apple does not allow — Tracking works well when Location is Always. Apple blocks automatic SMS sending, and Community Watch is currently disabled on iOS.
- Shake detection behaves slightly differently on each platform — iOS counts complete native gestures; Android and web count motion spikes.
- Smartwatches — Apple Watch and Wear OS can raise an SOS and report location back to the phone account.
Frequently asked questions
Can the SafX web app track my location?
No. The web version at safx.net/app is a read-only companion for viewing alerts, chat, reports and maps. It does not track you, does not report your location in the background, and cannot trigger an emergency once the tab is closed. Background tracking and emergency triggering happen only in the Android and iOS apps.
Why does SafX SMS fallback not send automatically on my iPhone?
Apple does not permit any app to send a text message on your behalf. On iPhone, SafX prepares the message and alerts you, but you must press send yourself. On Android, SafX can send it automatically if the SMS permission is granted.
Is Community Watch available on iPhone?
Community Watch reporting is currently disabled on iOS. Opening the page returns you to the Home screen. All other SafX features are available on iPhone.
