Install SafX, grant the four permissions, connect one person, and test it
SafX only works in an emergency if it was set up before the emergency. This is the shortest path from a fresh install to an account that can actually raise an alarm and be found.
- What SafX is, and what it is not — A safety-support tool that alerts people you choose. It is not an emergency dispatch service.
- Step 1: Install the app on the phone you actually carry — Tracking and emergency triggering happen on the phone in your pocket, so install it there first.
- Step 2: Grant the four permissions SafX needs — Location, Notifications, Camera and Microphone. A blocked permission silently removes a capability.
- Step 3: Connect at least one trusted contact — An alert with nobody connected to it reaches nobody. This is the step people skip.
- Step 4: Walk the six-step setup wizard — The wizard covers connection, appearance, safety controls, alert delivery and privacy in order.
- Step 5: Name your emergency contact and complete your profile — The emergency contact is the person named first on an alert, separate from your connected guardians.
- Step 6: Test your setup without alarming anyone — The built-in shake test proves your trigger settings work without sending a real alert.
- Your setup is complete when all of this is true — Use this as a final check. The Home screen safety score reflects most of it.
- Common setup problems and fixes — The handful of things that stop a fresh install from working.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to pay to use SafX?
No. Core safety features are free, including the SOS button, shake detection, crash detection, trusted contacts, chat and offline SMS fallback. The free plan is limited to 3 emergency alerts per calendar month. Pro adds Live Map, Location History, Activity Timeline, Reports and Family Monitor.
How many trusted contacts should I add to SafX?
At least three. The Home screen safety score deducts points when you have fewer than three connected contacts, because a single contact who happens to be asleep or out of signal leaves you with nobody.
Can I test SafX without alerting my contacts?
Yes. Use Settings -> Safety -> Emergency trigger -> Test your settings -> Start 2-minute test. Real shake emergencies are disabled for the duration of the test, so nothing is sent.
Which permissions does SafX require?
Four: Location, Notifications, Camera and Microphone. Location should be set to Always (iPhone) or Allow all the time (Android) with Precise Location enabled, otherwise tracking stops when the app is closed.
